Daphne Lewis
Daphne Lewis researches bamboo as a farm crop at Georgia Bamboo, a wholesale bamboo nursery in Georgia.  The nursery is owned by Robby Russell and Mike Hotchkiss.  She manages 10 groves of bamboo in two different locations.  Her goal is to add bamboo to American agriculture.  She harvests shoots from each plot, counts and weighs them.  The data creates information about yield and timing useful to farmers planning to add bamboo to their farm.

In the course of harvesting bamboo shoots, Daphne has sold shoots to Asian friends and acquaintances, at a local farmers market, and has cooked and eaten those she did not sell. Find Daphne's research at www.bamboofarmingusa.com. Order her book "Farming Bamboo" co-written with Dr. Carol Miles at Amazon.
Daphne has been a member of the American Bamboo Society since 1981. From 1986 until 1995 she owned and managed Bamboo Gardens of Washington, a retail bamboo Nursery. She moved to Georgia in October 2010 to begin work with established stands of timber bamboo. She is a member of the SE Chapter of the American Bamboo Society.
